How to Choose University Career
10 things that I have learned as a university student and as a mother:

The time has come to choose a career and if you do not know very well what you want to study, you can:
- listen to expert professionals, let you be advised by your parents, by your teachers
- or try another more creative way: «Out of the Box«, outside of your comfort zone
As the first, probably the most reasonable, you have it in your hands because they will provide it at home and in some school orientation talk, In these post, I focused on the second option, what did they consist of ?:
Simply think differently to get different results. I proposed you to consider different options:
- ask yourself if it would not be better to leave your home, your city, your comfort zone and go to study in a foreign country, to continue with your love for sports
- in not limiting yourself to the script of science or letters and looking for a holistic education that allows you not only to find a job but also to train and grow as a person
- in helping you choose by answering apparently absurd questions, debate defending opposing positions, explain what are the characteristics that make up a good choice
- to encourage you to do a work of introspection to see how you are and to know what you really want, fleeing social pressure, the fear of choosing something with few job opportunities, of having the freedom to «make a mistake» and the opportunity to rectify without hurry
- to get out of the script completely and give yourself the idea of venturing around the world because it’s probably the only time in your life where you can do it
All of them are different, perhaps somewhat risky but also possible.
So now, considering the classic options and these more creative, the time has come for you to decide.
There is no more delay: you just made the access university exam and you already have your note. You have very few days to decide. Now the ball is on your roof.
The most important of all these posts is if they have encouraged you to reflect, to think differently, they do not try to tell you what decision to take, that is only what you know and you are the only person indicated to do it.
As I told you, this is one of the 5 most important decisions of your life, even if you have to rectify it later, it will also have been essential. I have always thought that those of us who start with the worst cards in the deck of life can get to play a good trick, against all odds, if we play them well, if we make good choices. And for good elections you must not understand what is expected of you but what you feel you want, even sometimes regardless of the result you get because you know you have not betrayed and you will never doubt what would have happened if you had bet on they.
In these post I have reflected what I have learned from my university experience.
Finally, as a mother of two university children I have also learned 2 important things:
- it hurts to let you go
- there is no greater happiness than see that you are happy
If you think your parents will be upset by your departure, as a mother, I must confess that you are probably right. For me the most difficult thing has been to encourage my children to go abroad and push them to fly high.
For your parents it will be hard, without any doubt, it is about separating yourself, of «cutting the emotional umbilical cord» and that we take it badly, mainly the mothers. If you have to convince your parents tell them that, despite the grief, I would encourage my children to choose this option again because I see that their life has changed for the better and that they are happy. We’ll see what happens if my third child finally decides to go around the world, as he says right now, I’m going to have to take two cups of my own medicine…
At the end, the only issue in which all parents agree and, what we really want for our children, is your happiness. Leaving home produces fear and illusion in equal parts, to you and to your parents, no doubt, in that sense is a family adventure full of renunciations, uncertainties, growth and joy.
Also tell them that the best thing about you going to study abroad is the day you return home, there is no greater emotion than going to the airport and seeing your plane land, the first hug on arrival, seeing that you have achieved it, how you have matured… more than compensates for all the generosity of having encouraged you to leave.
